My name is Doug Aven and I live in Haslett, Michigan with my wife Cindy. We have been married since 1977, and have 2 daughters. In 2005, I retired from the City of East Lansing as a 911 dispatcher after 31 years of service.
I have always had a love for the out-of-doors beginning with trout fishing with my father as a young boy, and later, deer hunting with Dad and my Uncle Forrest in northern Michigan.
At the age of 15, as a hobby I got into taxidermy, then in 1986 it turned into my 2nd full time career.
Currently, I am a Board Member with the Michigan Taxidermist Association. Being an active member, I have been involved in a program called “Dream Makers,” which allows challenged children the opportunity to fish and hunt within the State of Michigan.
I met Brigid at the Michigan state taxidermy/outdoor show which was held in Grand Rapids.
Becoming part of the USSA will allow us to recruit more children and fulfill their dreams.
