After successfully honing their skills in target practice, enthusiastic first-time hunters Micah, age 10, and William, age 11, were eager to head into the field. Micah confidently took his place in an elevated blind with his grandpa and mentor, while William settled into a different blind alongside his dad and mentor.
Within twenty minutes, a doe appeared approximately 170 yards before William’s blind. He shared, “My dad saw the deer first, and we watched it for a while, but then two smaller deer came in front of it. After the smaller deer moved, I shot my first deer and was so excited!”
Tim said, “It was absolutely awesome! I was so happy to see my son that excited. After he made the shot, he didn’t want to sit anymore; he wanted to go see his deer!” He reflected on the times his son had sat in the blind with him, waiting patiently but without the opportunity to harvest a deer. That moment with their mentor transformed their experience into something truly unforgettable.
A short time later, out in front of Micha’s blind, two small does appeared, followed by a buck and then several more does. Micha recalled, “I saw one doe that was broadside and in front of me, and I shot it in the shoulder. I was so excited that my leg shook, and I couldn’t wait to get out of the blind and see it.
When another mentor arrived at their stand to take Micha out to see his deer, he found Micha so excited that he was hanging halfway out of the window, waving and giving a thumbs-up.
The mentors shared that the most rewarding part of the hunt was the quality time spent with the special hunters. They genuinely enjoyed teaching them about firearm safety and guiding them through their first hunt.
