  3. Magnificent Morning Fishing

On August 4, 2022, with an honorary escort from the hotel by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, thirty-five families gathered together with their Captains at the Southport Fire Department.

A delicious meal served with a wide selection of food, a fascinating motorcycle, and an acrobatic stunt show concluded a fantastic evening. After a good night’s sleep at the Comfort Suites, the families were escorted again by the Sheriff’s Office to the landing site hosted by Morningstar Marinas of Southport, which was very exciting for the kids.

Michelle Cheeks said a beautiful morning prayer for the Captains and their families, followed by Megan East singing our national anthem. Then thirty-four boats took to the beautiful oceanic waters carrying excited anglers full of anticipation. A light rain cooled everyone off, then let up, and two beautiful rainbows appeared, a majestic sight to behold!

The rainbows reminded everyone of the Divine promises to humankind, and they experienced comfortable weather and outstanding fishing. Excited anglers reeled in a wide variety of saltwater species while they enjoyed the fantastic experience in a beautiful ocean setting.

We are grateful for the Captains and first mates who went above and beyond to create a fantastic fishing experience and the Lord who kept the sea calm with a beautiful array of clouds overhead.

Every successful event has many dedicated people, businesses, and organizations working tirelessly and financially supporting it. Our deepest gratitude goes out to all those who helped make the event a memory-making occasion for everyone who participated: Morningstar Marina of Southport, Comfort Suites Southport, Morehead City Open, Triad Saltwater Anglers (TSA), North Carolina Marine Fisheries, DB Sole Freerunning, and Seatow. Also, Southport Fire Department, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Wildlife Resources, 3Cheers Party Rental, and New Hanover County Marine Patrol.

In addition, Bella Cucina, Falcons, Fishy Fishy, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Bambini’s Pizzeria, Jersey Mikes, San Felipe Pelican’s SnoBalls- Shallotte, and The Tackle Box. Also, shout out to Jimmy Thomas & Maureen Grubel for an outstanding job at cooking and serving lunch.

A special thank you to Melissa Fineman, Eric King, Scott Blevins, John Cranford, Justin Grant, and other volunteers for their hard work and dedication in making this event remarkable for the families.

It was a pleasure having Miracle League and Special Olympics families participating in the event. It is heartwarming to see charities working together to better the lives of the extraordinary families we have the privilege of serving. God bless!
