  3. USSA’s Childswish 5th Annual Deep Sea Fishing Event

Thursday evening, with an honorary escort from the hotel by the local Sheriffs and police department, the families gather together with their Captains at the Southport Fire Department. A delicious meal served with a selection of various foods and a fascinating motorcycle and acrobatic stunt show concluded a fantastic evening. After a good night’s sleep at the Comfort Suites, the families were escorted again by the joint effort to the landing site hosted by Southport Marina, which was very exciting for the kids.

Megan East said a beautiful morning prayer for the anglers, captains, and families; then Tina McCracken sang our national anthem. Twenty-four boats took to the beautiful oceanic waters carrying excited anglers full of anticipation. Although heavy rain was forecasted, it began to look like their prayers were answered as the rain let up and a beautiful rainbow appeared!

Rainbows have symbolized God’s promise to man, and this one was no exception as they all experienced comfortable weather and outstanding fishing! Excited anglers reeled in a wide variety of saltwater species as they all enjoyed the amazing experience in a beautiful ocean setting. We are so grateful for the captains and first mates who went above and beyond to create a fantastic fishing experience, and for the Lord who kept the rain at bay!

Every successful event has many dedicated people and organizations working tirelessly and financially supporting it, and our deepest gratitude goes out to all those who helped make the event a memory-making occasion for everyone involved. Southport Marina, Comfort Suites, Morehead City Open, Triad Saltwater Anglers (TSA), North Carolina Marine Fisheries, DB Sole Freerunning, and Seatow. Also, City of Southport Fire Department, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Southport Police Department, North Carolina Wildlife Resources, 3Cheers Party Rental, Oak Island Baptist Church, and Marine Service Pro.

Special thank you to Melissa Fineman, Scott Blevins, and John & Diane Cranford for their hard work and dedication in making this event all the more remarkable for the families!

It was a true pleasure having Special Olympics, Kisses for Kyle, CCA Foundation, and Miracle League families participate in the event. It is heartwarming to see charities working together for a common goal to better the lives of the extraordinary families we serve. God bless!
